10 Top Cleaning Tips to help you speed through the chores!
1. Prepare 2 bucket. One will carry all your cleaning products and cloths and the other will hold your dirty cloths and trash bags. Carrying the buckets with you room by room saves time running back and forth for items from your cleaning cupboard.
You will need the following cleaners
- Cream Cleaner – Soft Scrub
- All Purpose Cleaner in a spray bottle- Method Antibac
- Toilet Bowl Cleaner – Clorox
- Spray Polish – Pledge
- Swiffer Wet & Dry Refills
- Window Cleaner – any brand
- Cleaning Cloths
- Kitchen Towel
- Plastic supermarket bags for trash and recycling
- Extendable feather duster
2. Tidy a room before cleaning it. It takes twice as long to clean if you have to keep moving “stuff” from one place to another. Get the kids to tidy their rooms before you clean. Tough love works here – tell them if it’s on the floor the vacuum will get it !!
3. If you have cobwebs – whisk round with the feather duster first then work round the room once, keep your buckets within arms reach. Dirt and dusty love gravity ! So work from top to bottom and then you won’t have to re-clean surfaces which have become dusty/dirty for a second time.
4. Clean several rooms before going back and vacuuming or mopping the floor. For some reason it is just quicker to clean several floors in one go rather than individually. Or even better get a Robot Vacuum Cleaner. If robots are going to take over the world then they may as well make themselves useful! My son has the Shark ION ROBOT 720 and we can really recommend it. I’ll let you into a secret “she” has a name – Doris! Doris is popped into a room first thing in the morning and she sets off and cleans the floors, doesn’t matter whether they are hardwood, vinyl or carpet she finds all the dust and dirt and sucks them up. When she’s finished all you have to do is empty the dust container (very easy) and take her back to her “home” so she can recharge for the next day. We all love her and she is such a time saver. 5. Don’t clean for the sake of cleaning! If it’s not dirty don’t clean it, if there are just a few fingermarks clean them off don’t clean the whole area.
6. If you are scrubbing away and it’s not working then stop. Get something more heavy duty – make life easy on yourself and admit defeat earlier rather than later!
7. Concentrate on what you are doing, don’t day dream – focus and you’ll clean quicker and easier.
8. Learn to use both hands, you’ll be surprised how quickly you can learn to work with a cloth in each hand.
9. When using cleaners such as toilet cleaner then apply that first and get on with cleaning the rest of the room. Come back to that last and it shouldn’t need more than a quick swipe with the toilet brush. If cleaning an oven then spray the oven the night before and then the next day wipe out with kitchen roll and job done. And next time you are buying an oven get a self cleaning one!
10. This is the important one – clean as if the devil is chasing you! Give yourself a deadline. If you have a timer on your watch use it. And don’t stop until you are finished, act as if you were cleaning someone else’s house – don’t be tempted to read letters, magazines, flick through books etc. Just clean, clean, clean. Then you can have a coffee and do what you want to do rather than what you have to do.
